Nike Air Force 1 "Clowns" - 1 of 1 for Latroy Hawkins
When we design a pair of shoes, we like to find out as much about our client as possible and create a pair of shoes with some meaning behind it. Upon the learning that Latroy Hawkins is a Gary, Indiana native and is a big fan of the Negro League and its rich history, we knew we had a chance to create something pretty special.

The Indianapolis Clowns were a professional baseball team in the Negro American League from the 1940's. The historic ball club was known for their crazy antics yet was home to stars like that guy, Hank Aaron.

We dug up the old Clowns logo and made a few changes to it. The aim was to keep the shoes pretty simple and clean with an old-school, retro baseball feel. For the base shoe we picked a gigantic pair of cool grey Air Force 1's with an icy outsole. The 'JGoods Clowns' logo was hand painted on the front quarter of each shoe in a deep red outlined with slate blue. To match the logo, the swoosh received a deep red color change and the heel panel was painted white and trimmed with a slate blue band.

For the packaging of the shoes, an old program from 1954 was altered and applied to a hard sided shoe box covered with a linen-like material and a leather bottom. Inside the box, a custom shoe wrap was made with a premium, unbleached muslin and was fitted with buttons and stitching details to mimic the retro uniforms worn in the 40's and 50's.
