Awhile back, we posted Mayer Hawthorne’s 1 of 1 Dunk High SB’s. They were our first collaboration with Mayer and they were hand-painted by JGoods. You can read the full story behind them by clicking here.

We are excited to post that Mr. Hawthorne decided to wear them in his latest music video, and it is for the same song that we used for our process video. Both videos and screen caps are below.

And yes, we do realize nobody will be looking at his shoes with all that eye-candy around. Make sure you watch in HD though!

Born and bred out of Melbourne, Australia, SNKRFRKR has gone onto become the highest publicized independent magazine globally, keeping sneaker freaks all over the world informed with their Boogazine and their website.

JGoods Nike Dunk High “Yikes Stripes”

We have long since been admirers of Karl Kani and all that he has done for the urban fashion industry. As a self taught, determined adolescent, Carl Williams turned a childhood hobby into a fashion empire.

“Williams learned what it meant to be stylish at an early age. Yet, style for him was inspired by Hip-Hop lifestyle and street culture, and apparel in this aesthetic was nowhere to be found. Without adequate clothing options, 16 year old Williams decided to design his own clothes and commissioned his father’s tailor to bring his illustrations to life. Saving his money to afford fabric and labor, he was soon the freshest dressed kid on the block.”

Upon having met Karl about a month ago, we found out that we share a very similar story, less the multi-million dollar fashion empire. After our meeting, Karl said that he wanted us to paint a pair of one of one sneakers for his son, Karl Jr.

The dunk Highs were created using Karl Jr.’s favorite colors: cool grey, varsity red and black. The varying, horizontal stripe pattern is inspired by patterns made famous by early Kani polos and t-shirts. The Swoosh was given a color change to provide balance and the JGoods cursive logo was added to the rear quarter and tucked painstakingly among the lines. Lastly, a set of custom foot beds were made featuring Karl Jr.’s moniker, K-Rock.

To package K-Rock’s exclusive heat, an acrylic box was fitted and screened with K-Rock’s logo, the JGoods logo and a personalized size ticket. Much love and respect for the Kani family.

JGoods Nike Air Force 1 Supreme “L’Union Fait La Force”

A country long tormented by poverty, environmental degradation, violence, instability and dictatorship was devastated in January when a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck at its heart. Haiti will need to be completely rebuilt from the ground up.
Through all their trial and turmoil, Haiti has maintained a rich culture and fervor for the arts. Haiti is world famous for its distinctive art, bold designs and brilliant colors. Taxi cabs, also known as tap taps, are elaborately decorated by their owners with bright colors and other artistic elements, which stands in contrast with some of the desolate city blocks.
These particular shoes were designed to mimic the superbly painted tap taps; A more colorful way to travel. The shoes feature a balanced mosaic of geometric shapes and line using the colors of the Haitian flag. The base shoe is a classic in its own right: The Nike Air Force 1 Mid Supreme Max Air CB.
The rear quarter shares the French phrase “L’Union Fait La Force” with the country’s flag which loosely translates to: strength through unity. It will take the efforts of many, united by cause, to begin to restore all that has been lost. JGoods one.

These shoes will be auctioned off on Nike Talk with all proceeds going to aid in the efforts to rebuild Haiti. Details of the auction have yet to be solidified. Check back often for updates.

JGoods for Mayer Hawthorne

We are excited to post the latest JGoods creation, the Nike Dunk High SB “Mayer Hawthorne”. These are 1 of 1’s for Mayer Hawthorne himself.

The shoes were designed to coincide with Mayer’s impeccable retro styling as he is most often seen in classic suits, vintage eye glasses and heat on his feet. For the base shoe, we chose the Nike Dunk High Pro SB Creed in a white / khaki / and light stone colorway. The shoes feature color changes to the swoosh and toe box as well as an intricate plaid pattern in earth tones over the heel panel. And just so there isn’t any confusion as to who these were made for, the Mayer Hawthorne logo was applied to the shoe’s rear quarter. The sneakers were packaged in a tweed box with a viewing window and Mayer Hawthorn’s logo screened on the top. As always, the shoes were hand-painted by JGoods himself and will never be reproduced again.

Everything from the development to the presentation of the shoes has been chronicled in this video with music captured from his concert at First Ave in Minneapolis on April 4th.

And for those willing to believe anything is possible, be grateful to have Mayer Hawthorne on the scene. It’s not just throwback music anymore – this revival is all about progression.

Facts about Spring

Dreams and intentions are one thing, but to act on them is another. The last few weeks have been a blessed time for the JGoods family.
Stop being busy and start being productive.

First Order:
J and I spent last week in the City of Angels. The weather was shit but compared to the bearish Minnesota winter, pretty enjoyable. We had the opportunity to meet with some amazing people and had a truly joyous experience. Much love to Nick and Karl. Not knowing what tomorrow will hold is a beautiful thing. I wish I could tell you more about it now, but I can’t.

Second:
I’d like to welcome two new members to the JGoods family. Our new intern Joe McCullagh and our newest member of the JGoods Web Team, Ryan “Suufs_the_trufs” Sufka. Expect to be hearing from both these guys soon. Some real talented dudes we’re excited to have on board.

Finally:
Congratulations to Alisha Williams from New York City, the winner of the JGoods x Daily Drop Sneaker Giveaway. Alisha loves art, design and chocolate milk.
