I’ve been meaning to post this for a while. Somebody is selling his entire Nike Foamposite collection on eBay for ten grand (seven grand is opening bid). This guy is nuts because that is over $550 per pair. Some of these are really hard to find, but you gotta let the people decide what they are gonna pay. Split them up and sell them individually my man.
Anyway, I just like foams. But, I like them better without the swoosh on the side.

“but at over $550 a shoe, he is bugging.”
That’s rich coming from someone whose painted shoes start at $1000

Sam, you’re missing a VERY crucial point when it comes to your average pair of Nike Foamposites and a pair of shoes customized by JGoods (or any shoe customizer, for that matter).
That average pair of Nike Foamposites (take your pick on which ones) have a SET MARKET VALUE. You throw those on eBay or put them in a store, and generally speaking, they are going to sell in the same price range again and again. Sure, they’ll probably fluctuate as time goes on, but every single one of the thousands upon thousands of pairs manufactured will fall into a price range that you could probably figure out with a very specific degree of accuracy.
However, with a pair of customized shoes (a pair of ONE-OF-A-KIND, meticulously handpainted shoes, mind you) there is no set market value. Every pair is different, and it’s entirely up to the consumer to decide how much they want to pay for those shoes. BECAUSE THEY AREN’T GOING TO FIND THEM ANYWHERE ELSE, EVER. So if JGoods wants to charge $1000 for a pair of the shoes he spends more time designing and painting than you can even imagine, and the customer that wants them is willing to pay $1000 to be able to have the most unique shoes he or she will ever own…who gives a flying 747 fuck whether you think they’re overpriced?
The FACT of the matter is that $550 for several of the pairs of Foams in that auction is a completely ridiculous price to pay, and you’ll find that sentiment echoed on every single message board or blog where this specific auction was referenced.
But customized shoes? Show me a place online or otherwise that lists how much those are worth. No need to get mad at JGoods for BEING ABLE to charge that much because of the incredible quality of the work he does.
I’ll await your response.
