The Sneaker Culture

Pics of a “black and red” colorway of the Nike Air Force 2:

Sometimes I have questions about things. Questions that I just don’t know the answers to. Yeah, I could probably Google them, but you have to just wonder about some things in life, don’t you? Just accept the fact that it’s probably worth not knowing? Things like: why someone would name their child Apple. Or why it isn’t universally recognized that Caddyshack is one of the top 3 funniest movies of all time. Or what bark is made out of on a tree.

Along those lines (okay, not really at all), I wonder…is it possible to copyright a color scheme? I would imagine it isn’t, but man…if it was, Gucci could have made millions upon millions more than what they’ve made already.

I see what Nike tried to do here. It’s not a bad looking shoe. Simple, looks like some decent material was used, a few color accents. But aren’t those “color accents” a wee bit played out by now?? Or is the Gucci-looking colorway “timeless”? I’d say no, just because before this shoe came out:

and reintroduced the world to the dark green/bright red combo…people accepted that that color combo just was Gucci’s and their shit just looked better when utilizing it. But as we all know now, in the world of hypebeasty fashion, nothing is sacred. (Don’t even get me started on that bullshit.) And every shoe company currently existing wants that Hypebeast love.

So we get this:

And this:

And…ahem…this:

When they should all just be leaving Gucci to make their own craptacular shoes, like this:

I suppose in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t really matter. It’s only a color scheme that most people a) seem to think it looks good on shoes (or any other product) and b) gives everything a little whiff of “expensive” and “exclusive”.

I’m thinking it’s a bit more of the latter than the former.
